Centers
Listening Center
We have 2 listening centers in our classroom.  Students listen to 2 different stories in a week.  After listening to the story, students complete a listening form.  Click on the fish below to see a copy of the form.  Click on the boots to see the listening center directions.
Spelling Centers
Students use letter tiles to spell their weekly spelling words.  If they are alone, they look at the sheet and spell the words on the carpet.  If there are 2 students at this center, one calls out the words while the other student spells it with the tiles. Click on the pinecones to see the spelling center directions.
Phonics Center
Students will practice various phonics skills at this center.  They may play one of the following:  short vowel match, long vowel match, blends match, digraph match.  Students may also make word family activities.  This center changes weekly, but always remains a phonics activity.  Click on the marshmallows below to see a copy of the short/long vowel match directions.
Students use telephones to spell their weekly spelling words. (There is also a worksheet if you don't have an extra phone.)  Students decide how much each letter is worth, and then add them together for each word.  (This is also a great math practice, too.)   Click on the marshmallows  to see the spelling center directions.

Shaving Cream Spelling
Each student gets a cookie sheet tray.  (Found at the Dollar Tree)  He/She squirts shaving cream in the tray.  Students then practice their spelling words by writing them in the shaving cream. (This is great for practicing cursive writing, too!)  Click on the thermos to see the spelling center directions.
Words Centers
Students get a bucket of grammar blocks.  (You can make your own by writing words on big, foam dice.  Be sure to include all parts of speech on them.)  Students roll once die and write a sentence with that word.  (Later in the year, students will roll up to 3 dice.)  Students must follow specific rules for writing sentences.  They can be found on the worksheet.    Click on the hot dog to see the worksheet and directions.
Grammar Blocks
Magnetic Sentences
Each student gets a cookie sheet tray.  (Found at the Dollar Tree)  He/She takes a handful of magnetic words out of the container.  (My words came in a calendar.  You can purchase them almost anywhere.)  Students must arrange the words to make a complete sentence.  They must follow the same rules they use for grammar block sentences.
